It may have been fate that I stumbled across a new cupcake spot on my day of errands in Soho. Baked By Melissa cupcake window opened today serving up bite-sized cupcakes for a buck each. And since they were only the size and price of a silver dollar, I could indulge a little. I tried the S'mores and Red Velvet. There is definitely a cakey quality to them, not the dense, butter-rich quality of the ones available nowadays, but the ones of yesteryear that I grew up on. And what they lack in butter, they make up in lightness, presentation, frosting-cake proportion, taste and size ( you can have your variety of cupcakes and eat them too! ). Other flavors offered were PB&J, Peanut Butter Cup, Cookie Dough, Cookies and Cream and Tie-Dye. On my next day of errands in Soho I will detour to try the rest!

Jamba Juice Steel Cut Oatmeal
My current addiction is Jamba Juice's steel cut oatmeal with fresh bananas and a bit of brown sugar crumble. Steel cut oatmeal typically takes about 40 minutes to make, so it's nice to know that for a quick breakfast you can get pick up something slow-cooked from chain. 2nd place goes to Local on Sullivan Street in Soho which has dried cranberries and nuts, and 3rd place is the decadent 'wichcraft version that has a warm butter brown sugar sauce and fruit and nut toppings.
